The Women of Excellence awards hosted by COMO Magazine celebrate exceptional Columbia, Missouri businesswomen who strive to continuoulsy grow in their professional field through continued education and serving in their community. They also seek to further other women within their professional field through both formal and informal mentorships and helping them connect to other women.

Karen Miller, Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge Class of 2011, was one of the 8 honorees recognized this week during a magical ceremony held in Columbia.

Karen is retired as the District One Boone County Commissioner where she served from 1993 to 2017. Karen has been a supporter of many successful activities for GMLF over the years.  She proposed a regional council structure to focus GMLC members and alumni on issues and activities that directly impact their regions. The objectives and strategies of this plan have not yet been fully implemented but the foundation is there to do so thanks to her vision. Karen is also a top recruiter for GMLC in that she cultivates and nominates potential challengers every year and she mentors them throughout their journey.

Karen’s generosity extends beyond her personal time and committment to the success of GMLC. An annual donor, she hosts many gatherings for alumnae and prospects, and has even donated a case of wine for the Class of 2020 to enjoy during hospitality gatherings. Karen is one of Greater Missouri’s engaged women, leading and serving their communities in many different ways and we are thrilled that others recognize her influence!
