Time to make your voices heard and to show up
In June we highlighted that a number of GMLF alumnae are leading on the first-of-its-kind Women’s Economic Development Task Force to study issues, gather feedback surrounding women’s participation and advancement in the workforce, and to generate solutions to better empower women
I have been able to participate in the previous town hall events and encourage you to join in.
The hearings continue through the end of October and we encourage all alumnae to participate as the meetings are held in your area, and recruit 5 friends to join you.
We believe so strongly in the opportunities for the input obtained that we have included a private town hall hearing for our Challenge Class participants who will be meeting in Kansas City for their third session September 15-17. The Classes of 2020 and 2021 will be able to provide input and help set the tone and priorities for women’s economic development policy (including policy affecting childcare, family leave, occupational licensing, entrepreneurship restrictions and others) both in-person and through virtual attendance utilizing the cutting-edge virtual meeting tools at the technology center of the DeBruce Foundation Meeting Center.
Meanwhile, the next public event will be held at the Florissant Town Hall on Tuesday, September 14th from 11:30 am – 1 pm at the Florissant Civic Center.
On September 21 a virtual event will be held from 11:30-12:30.
October 6th a public Kansas City Town Hall will be held from 11:30-1:00 at the KC Chamber of Commerce, Union Station Board Room.
October 14th I will be hosting a Kirksville Town Hall from 11:30-1:00 at Truman State University.
October 28th the final virtual Town Hall will be held from 5:30-6:30 emphasizing the needs of women of color and all who were unable to participate in other events.
More information and registration can be found at united-we.org/mo-town-halls. If you cannot join any event in person, share your story online through the Town Hall Question Feedback Form.
United WE, is a non-partisan non-profit advancing women’s economic and civic leadership through policy advocacy, research, and philanthropy. We have worked with the organization for many years on their Appointments Project and are energized by this new collaboration. The town halls are set to address the unique economic needs of women in Missouri. The input obtained from town hall participants will inform a series of policy recommendations for state leaders and lawmakers to be delivered at the end of 2021 and will set the tone and priorities for women’s economic development across the state. The Florissant event will also feature complimentary professional childcare on site from a woman-owned business, as well as free lunch for attendees.
