Misty Phillips (GMLC Class of 2017) was recently promoted within the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to become the MO Comprehensive Cancer Program Manager in the Bureau of Cancer and Chronic Disease Prevention. Previously she served as the Program Coordinator in the Bureau of Environmental Epidemiology at DHSS. While in that role she successfully launched a new federal drinking water program and the “Choose Safe Places” (environmentally safe from toxins) pilot program to protect the health and well being of children in daycare, pre-school, and elementary school settings across Missouri.
In her new role, Misty will be collaborating with key stakeholders across the state to support cancer prevention, screening and detection, and the well being of survivorship. She also has a special interest in promoting health equity and this position will provide her a platform to encourage that. As a servant leader, she has been a “Relay for Life” volunteer for over 10 years in addition to being very involved in her local community. She also serves on several state, regional, and national boards/committees.
