Working For Youth is an evidence-based model aimed at changing the trajectory of vulnerable teens living in underserved communities by expanding youth employment opportunities in Kansas City. Hire KC, and KC Common Good (KCCG) are joining forces to grow the city’s capacity to train, coach and employ 250-300 youth this summer by offering them an 8 week paid internship that will pay them a $1,000 stipend. Also, students will have a week of training at Hire KC’s Work Ready Institute training seminar.
GMLF hosted intern will be a meeting planner helping us on the logistics for the Leadership Challenge Third Session for the combined Classes of 2020 and 2021 to be held in Kansas City September 15-17. We hope that this will be a robust internship experience for a high school senior or recent graduate. A secondary goal is that we would mentor that student and perhaps they could participate in our Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge in the near future. We can’t wait to meet our selected match later this month and work with them for a minimum of 120 hours during the 8 week internship period.
We believe that this initiative will create an ecosystem that maximizes economic empowerment for area youth and bolsters workforce development through skills training and mentorship. Also, we know that the Greater Missouri Leadership Challenge regional planning team will benefit from the innovation, energy and enthusiasm that interns can bring. If you are interested in working with the intern and joining the planning team, contact Katie right away at KDanner@GreaterMO.org.
