Sister Berta’s extraordinary influence and inspiration lives on in thousands of children and all of us who were blessed to have her in our lives. Her legacy will continue to grow.

Sister Berta Sailer, co-founder of Operation Breakthrough, passed away 01-25-24 at the age of 87. A 50-year champion of children and families facing adversity, Sister Berta spent most of her life providing social services, education, and healthcare for those most in need.

We honored her as one of our Women of the Year in 2010. She will remain an inspiration for future Class cohorts as we keep her memory alive and we continue to share the work of Operation Breakthrough.
