Congratulations to Kristy Jackson, GMLC Class of 2020, who recently celebrated the grand opening of the Center of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Harris-Stowe State University. As Executive Director of the CIE, Kristy has been working to grow and develop under-served and under-represented entrepreneurs in the St. Louis region. With the opening of the CIE, Kristy Jackson is spearheading efforts to help business owners sustain their businesses past the start-up stage.
The CIE is uniquely situated to serve as the cornerstone of entrepreneurship and innovation, providing critical resources such as mentorship, programming, and access to technology, fostering growth and success among under-represented communities.
Situated in the historic Mill Creek Valley, a former hub for Black entrepreneurs, the CIE honors this legacy by reinvigorating the area, offering resources and support to underrepresented communities. The area’s thriving past was devastated in 1959, when demolition displaced 5,600 housing units, 800 businesses, and 40 churches.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Kristy Jackson emphasized, “The Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship is more than just a place for learning—it is deeply rooted in the history of St. Louis. Through the CIE, we empower businesses to thrive once again, reconnecting past triumphs with future possibilities.”
