On the opening day of the Missouri Legislative Session, many current and former women elected to serve in the Missouri Senate gathered to promote an historic collaboration. You Can, Too! Journey to the Missouri Senate, presented by Missouri Humanities Council and published by Missouri Life, is a book about 36 women senators sharing their unique stories and journey to the Missouri Senate in this unique leadership role.

Mary Gant became the first woman elected to the Missouri Senate in 1972. Almost 50 years later, women occupy nearly one-third of the 34 desks in the Senate chamber, a record number of 11 women senators .Despite their differences, they all arrived at public service to help the greater good. They shared an interest in making life better for Missourians.

For comparison, Missouri has had 1,118 men who have served in the same chamber. Sigh.

We look forward to meeting, celebrating, and interacting with many of these women leaders while we are in Jefferson City during our 1st session in March for the Leadership Challenge Class of 2022.

All are encouraged to order the book here!
