GMLF loves to share information about the careers of former graduates!  Ms. Zoe McKiness, GMLC 2016, graciously shared her story with us.  We hope that other GMLC graduates will share with us in the future!

After over 13 amazing years in agriculture R&D at Monsanto (now Bayer), I was approached last winter by Netflix to see if my experience in data science and analytics in crop science might translate to marketing science in entertainment. It was a big leap on all levels: technical, professional, personal, and geographic (moving my family from St. Louis to Los Angeles), and while there were moments of self-doubt, it was truly been an incredible journey and I am being challenged on a whole new level.

Netflix is a fast-paced company – my job has changed three times in the eight months.  My job title is Director of Content and Market Analysis.  I am a part of the Data Science and Engineering organization, leading a team responsible for driving metric innovation and analytics in both content and marketing. Specifically, my team is the experimentation and analytic partner to the Content and Marketing organizations, with the goal of amplifying business impact through the combination of analytic and tooling innovation, scaled execution, science leadership, and data partnership.  What that means day-to-day is flexing between driving strong, cross functional business partnerships with clear priorities to identifying opportunities for generalizable, scalable, durable tooling and analytics. It also means having a lot of fun, learning about entertainment at scale (1000 new titles a year!), and exploring my new city.

Sending my best to my GMLC alumni – and let me know if you are ever in LA!

Zoe
